AI and I: Introducing a new bromance

AI has taken the world by storm since the launch of ChatGPT and yours truly has also been swept up by the current. In the process I have tried ChatGPT for text composing, Dall-E 2 and Leonardo.AI for image generation, and will be poking around several others that do text to voice, text to video and other marvels of AI to get an overview of all the buzz and hype that has set the art world on fire.

Finally I settled down to do some real work and enlisted Leonardo to help out. After testing Leonardo, hereinafter Leon for short, on several quick projects I decided to prompt him to generate a picture of three koi fish. In 30 seconds flat he composed the requested 4 images, one of which I selected for further development.

One of four images done by Leonardo

It appears Leon hasn't got much input on koi as the anatomical members per fish and their details could be better, or my prompts were not particularly specific to be helpful. Anyway I'm a greenhorn in this vital step of prompting the AI to do my bidding. In fact, this action has become a new discipline in itself and some have called it "prompt engineering." Imagine in future graduating from university as a Prompt Engineer. What would people say?

Back to my koi. Hmm, I can see the road ahead as Leon's power increases exponentially with each passing day and my reliance on him also deepens. Feels like a new bromance already.

Thought I'll get Leon to do some variations but decided to make do with the selected picture and use Photoshop to clean up the extra fins, tails and cryptic generatives which only an AI can understand. Mind you, Leon is only trying to help when he seems to do more than asked. Overdeliver as they say in management. So after over three hours on my part plus Leon's 30 seconds our masterpiece is ready for world premiere as follows.

The selected image with reworks using Photoshop.
Still needs more work as I'm new to the finer points of koi anatomy.
The pectoral fins have to be much larger.

Feel free to leave your comments below. Leon will also welcome your feedback. 😊
