How I made a Book Trailer for my graphic novel

After publishing “Nanyang A Graphic Novel” on Amazon, I started developing the next book in the trilogy. With the concept and a mockup completed I put the project on the back burner. When I was about to resume work by hand-drawing the old school way, as I have done with the first book, an emerging technology burst upon the creative world. Artificial Intelligence! The buzz was too loud to ignore, the mania infectious. Joining millions across the planet I soaked up the tutes from the pioneering experts, trying out various platforms and made generative content for posters, t-shirts and ads. Soon my attention returned to the graphic novel. After finishing a couple of chapters I thought it might be an idea to shout out the book with a teaser.

The keyframes were generated on Leoardo AI.

I started by sketching out the storyboard and proceeded with recording the VO using macOS builtin text-to-speech TextEdit. Next I generated the key frames on LeonardoAI, and enhanced them in Photoshop. Each was then animated with image-to-video on HaiperAI. The music track was from earlier promo videos for Book 1, and was created in GarageBand using sound loops. Finally the content was edited in Premiere Pro and exported as an mp4 video. Suppressing my inner perfectionist I posted it on YouTube, warts and all, to catch the tide.

Synopsis of  “Nanyang” Book 2

The saga continues for brothers Ah Hock and Ah Seng who left their ancestral farm in China to seek their fortunes in the lands surrounding the South China Sea, aka Nanyang or the Southern Ocean. As invaders from the Atlantic battle each other for supremacy in the greatest land grab in history, native peoples unite in a valiant effort to keep them out, with the siblings drawn into struggles of their own. In their midst a woman must fight to hold on to her man, or lose the empire she inherited. Meanwhile somewhere in a remote corner of Borneo a native child is born, on whose shoulders will rest the fate of his tribe.


A riveting epic brimming with echoes of empire, blood and gore, love, intrigue and betrayal. The year’s eagerly awaited adventure romance.
